Mapping Cultural Ecosystem Services (CESs) and key urban landscape features: a pilot study for land use policy and planning review

Cultural ecosystem services (CESs), despite providing multiple non-material benefits associated with human well-being, have been overlooked in urban planning. Using as a pilot study the municipality of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, we map and evaluate inclusion CESs into land use policy to better inform We tested framework for: (1) assessing preferences local inhabitants for landscape features; (2) evaluating policies; (3) mapping CES hotspots city. found sense place recreation be main parks, squares cultural centres. No explicitly mentioned CESs, while zoning plans do not reflect bundles spatial values features. This can play vital role developing more comprehensive insights bridge planning help guiding review towards sustainable urbanisation.
